COMPTE RENDU SENSE OF BELONGING
The document can be an excerpt from either an autobiography or a
first-person narrative from a book entitled Fever Pitch, written by
Nick Hornby and published in 1992. It deals with the school years of
a man and the place football had in his life at the time.
Firstly, he introduces himself as an Arsenal supporter and as a first yearstudent. We will understand in the third paragraph (l14) that he is
in his first year of secondary school and so, he is probably 11 or 12
years old.
Secondly, he shows that football brings people together whatever the team yousupport. For example, he supports Arsenal whereas his best friendsupports Derby County. Moreover, he also explains that he spent mostof his free time playing football or exchanging soccer star stickers.
After/Next/Thirdly/Then,he shows/ insists on the fact that football brings people togetherbeyond physical and social differences. For instance, he was the smallest boy in first year whereas his best friend was the tallest. What’s more the clothes (you wore) didn’t matter (l19).
Finally,he points out the fact that in his life, football has always been a
way to make new friends or integrate new schools.
To conclude/As a conclusion, the writer wants to show that football is
not only a game or a sport. It helps people to be part of a group but
also to overcome differences.
