Corrigé de l'exercice de traduction :

L'Amérique a été initialement construite comme une utopie et son but ultime était une démocracie parfaite. Mais celle-ci a été rapidement menacée et l'est toujours.

Quand M.Atwood dit que « la science fiction parle vraiment de maintenant », elle veut peut être dire que les événements de la vraie vie influencent les auteurs lorsqu'ils écrivent une histoire. Quand elle a écrit La servante écarlate, M.Atwood vivait à Berlin ouest en 1984, à une époque de trouble politique. C'est pourquoi elle fût influencée et écrivit à ce sujet.

L'Amerique moderne peut être comparée au monde fictif d'Atwood parce que certains droits sont remis en cause :il se peut que les femmes n'aient plus le droit d'avorter.

La fiction dystopique peut être considéré comme un genre très puissant puisque le recul qu'offrent les romans permet aux lecteurs de comprendre le risque potentiel et cela pourrait leur donner la force de se révolter.

CORRIGE DES QUESTIONS DU DOC 4:

6. At the time, some conservative groups were attacking a feminist movement.
7. This movement was advocating greater social and legal equality for women.
8. Women are subservient to men.
9. There are 4 women social classes in the novel : Commanders' Wives in blue, Marthas in green, Handmaids in red and Aunts in brown.
NB : in the TV series the colours are slightly different : Commanders' wives wear green and Marthas wear grey
10. Women areno longer free since they are not allowed to read or move about freely in public. Moreover, some women must bear children for the regime.
11. The main character is Offred, she is a handmaid in the house of a commander. Before the establishment of the Republic of Gilead, she had a husband, a child (a daughter), a job, a normal middle class American life.
Now she is reduced to a 2 -legged womb (= un ventre sur 2 jambes = un uterus sur pattes)
